This two-volume catalogue was published to coincide with a retrospective at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, England. It includes the most iconic pieces made by Sam Taylor-Johnson (formerly Taylor-Wood), including David, the video of David Beckham asleep, and her Crying Men series. Taylor-Johnson compulsively examines the contemporary psyche and the place of the individual within the social group, and in order to do so, she is displaying the vulnerability and fragility of the human body and self.
Artwork is presented alongside previously unpublished images from Taylor-Johnson’s own archives, including personal, reportage and documentary work.
Essays by Peter Doroshenko, Harland Miller, James Fox, Ossian Ward, and Annushka Shani. Contributions by Nick Cave and Rufus Wainwright.
